CHALLENGE

This programme was aimed at strengthening financial institutions on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) lending, Business Development Service Providers (BDSPs) on dealing with MSMEs, and for MSMEs on how to grow and sustain their businesses through better management and preparation of bankable proposals for funding.

SOLUTION

AMSCO managed the Technical Assistance (TA) grant of US$ 1.0Million from the reso- urces of the Fund for African Private Sector Assistance (FAPA – a trust fund led by the government of Japan).


IMPACTS

  • 31 BDSPs trained, and are now counselling the MSMEs on Management and Financial Skills.
  • 74 MSMEs trained. who noted business improvements and have succeeded in accessing finance from financial institutions.
  • Immediate follow-up mentoring and coaching by the BDSPs was done for over 51.
  • MSMEs in Management Skills and 51 MSMEs in Financial Management Skills.
  • Training conducted for 12 Business Associations.
  • As a result of the partnership, an association of BDSPs was set up whose aim is to ensure that the service provided to the MSMEs is up to standard & accessible.
